National Fitness Day

We had a super time with year one getting fit! Thank you to Burnley football club who came into school to do a session with us.

Is that a monster over there?

This week we have been talking about monsters. We have shared our ideas on what they look like and written how we would catch one! We also noticed the apples on our  class tree were ready and ripe for picking. So with a little help from Mrs Howell and the children of course a MONSTER CRUMBLE was made. We will enjoy tasting it tomorrow. Here is how we made it!

Please send us your photographs!

Please keep us up to date with what you have been up to. The children love to share experiences and photographs with friends. Any photographs sent will be put into our class book to be viewed in the reading area.

We are busy bees!

We have had a busy few weeks in reception and we have enjoyed learning all about space! The children thrived on this topic and loved chatting about the solar system. Last week we talked about summer, how to protect ourselves in the sun and what we take on our holidays! This week we are continuing the stay safe topic. We have been discussing how to stay safe, stranger danger and water safety. Please do chat to your children about stranger danger, can they recall what to do if a stranger approaches them?

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Wilson, Miss Tann and the Reception Team.

Welcome Newbies!

It was wonderful to welcome our new children into reception this week for their taster session. Our current reception class were fabulous at looking after them and showing them around. Thank you to Ramone and Tianna who helped Miss Wilson take photographs for our child led transition booklet. We will drop this off at nurseries as we continue with our transition visits.

What lies ahead...

Please feel free to send in any books or items related to forthcoming topics. This term we will be preparing the children for year 1 whilst welcoming our new children into class. If you have any questions with regards to transition please do chat to one of our team. Thank you for your continued support.

What lies ahead for Summer 2...

Reception has talent!

On Friday 26th May school hosted Padiham's Got Talent. As a class we chose Xenan Robinson and 'The Twinkles' (our singing group) to perform. The children were superb and both acts sang without any backing music! Xenan sang 'You are my sunshine' while The Twinkles sang 'If you are happy and you know it'. We were very proud of our performers and we weren't at all surprised that Xenan came 3rd in the competition. Well done Reception!

Come on in and have a cuppa...

Reception were proud to welcome parents into school on Friday 26th May to celebrate their learning and host a coffee morning. They used their knowledge of money learnt that very week! Children bought and sold homemade biscuits, cakes and worry dolls. Our worry dolls were a key theme to Emotional Health and Well-being week and reflected how important it is to share emotions. As a class we decided to donate our proceeds to 'Millie's Trust' and we have now paid for one parent to be trained in first aid. Thank you to all who supported us, it was wonderful as always to see you in school.

In a moment...

In reception we love to capture those precious moments and here is one of them! We have loved being out in the wonderful weather. Following on from our discussions about looking after each other the children have been looking after our things too! Here they are cleaning our muddy kitchen onsies! Please can you make sure all children have a water bottle, hat and sunscreen applied.

Thank you,

The Reception Team.

Cronkshaw Farm

I am sure you have heard all about our trip to the farm already but here are some photos for you to see what we got up to! It was a wet and overcast day but we loved exploring in the mud and rain. We hunted in the woods for minibeasts, fed the animals and planted wild flowers. We had a fabulous time!

The Tiny Seed

This week we have learnt all about growing. The children are superb at science and have enjoyed this topic. We have read The Tiny Seed and Jasper's Beanstalk. We have watched our seeds grow and dreamed about what we would see at the top of Jasper's Beanstalk. We can now name parts of a plant and talk about what a plant needs to grow. Well done Reception!

Fun in the sun!

In Reception we love being outside and this is where most of our learning happens! We have had a great week, here are a few pictures of what we have been up to! Our water wall has taught us how to problem solve, whether different materials float or sink and how buckets can contain different capacities! We have also had a great time making potions in our mid kitchen and imagining a variety of ingredients. Me and the team would like to apologize for the few changes of socks this week, sometimes our toes can get a little soggy!

However Reception will also be selling cakes, biscuits and handmade worry dolls in the small hall with a complimentary tea or coffee. Kind regards,

Miss Wilson, Miss Tann and the Reception Team.

Dear Handa...

We have had a fabulous first week back at school! We have read Handa's Surprise, tasted some different fruit and learnt about a variety of animals. Take a look at what we have been up to!

Spring has sprung!

After a very exciting morning with our family visiting class we decided to make the most of the gorgeous weather and go on a spring walk. We saw all sorts of signs and we collected some nature tokens for our display.

Farm to Fork

We have had a fabulous morning at Tesco despite getting very wet on the journey! It's a good job we love the rain and being outside! The children enjoyed tasting fruit and finding out about healthy food. We touched a fish and we even got to see the giant fridge! Have a look at our photographs, some have been taken by the children too! Thank you to Kai, Joey, Lucy and Jaicee for helping Miss Wilson capture the moment.

Wow! What a wonderful visitor....

This afternoon one of our parents Mr Pennington was kind enough to pop in with his truck. He showed the children how it functioned, which was very exciting! The children really enjoyed asking questions and climbing up into the cab to have a peek. Thank you Macadam and Son of Colne for bringing some fabulous smiles to the faces of RW and RT!

Looking ahead...

We have had a superb spring term and as we look ahead to our week on Easter we also have summer in mind. We hope it will bring sunshine so we can carry on enjoying exploring outside! Taken from the children's suggestions and interests we have put together our Summer topics. Please click below to see what we will be doing in next term.

Road Safety

Today we have been out and about completing our road safety. The children have been talking about how to stay safe and we have been learning how to cross the road safely. They now know to stop, look and listen while they wait for the green man.

Stop, Look and Listen

Crime Scene Investigation

I am sure you have heard that our chair went missing on Monday. The children have made posters to find our missing chair and have been looking for evidence in the crime scene. Following lots of investigation we discovered it was Mr Monk. Our local PCSO's paid us a visit to class and had a little word with Mr Monk. Mr Monk was very apologetic and has shared how it is important not to steal items which aren't ours and how to ask if you are wanting to borrow something. Thank you to the local Police department and Mr Monk for a wonderful imaginative week in reception.
