Reception

Sports day!

Yesterday was our infant sports day. We would just like to thank all of the parents for coming down and supporting the children but most importantly well done to Reception! They were fantastic and every body tried their very best. Well done to all of the winners and well done to all the children who took part! Please take a look at some of the pictures, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we didsmiley

Just having a cool off!

With highs of up to 27+ degrees we have been teaching the children the importance of keeping safe in the sun. We have looked closely at the 3 S's: SLIP on a t-shirt, SLOP on sun cream and SLAP on a hat! Please ensure your child has sun cream on along with a hat and a water bottle to keep in school. In order to cool us down yesterday, Miss Chapman came up with a fabulous idea. She made us our very own paddling pool! The children absolutely loved it and decided to do more than just paddle and go for a swim!! We apologise if any child was slightly wet yesterday, we were busy having lots of fun! Please see some of our pictures belowsmiley

A royal reply

Earlier on in the year the children decided to sent a letter to William and Kate congratulating them on the recent arrival of the new prince. Violets lovely creation was chosen to be on the front cover of our card and all the children wrote their name inside. We didn't expect a reply but one day.....a post card arrived for us! The card stated that William and Kate loved the card we sent them and wanted to say thank you, WOW! The children were ecstatic to have a reply!smiley

Football is coming home!

This week has been geography week and what better way to celebrate it by inspiration from the world cup. Each class was given a country to learn about and lucky for reception we had....ENGLAND! The children have learnt all about the royal family, our capital city London, things that we like to eat and sports that we play. On Friday each class set up a table displaying all of the work they have done across the week. The children were able to visit each table and learn more stuff about new countries. Please take a look at our pictures and fingers crossed for England in the world cup!smiley

Warburtons came to visit!

We were very lucky in Reception as we had a visit from Warburtons. They talked to us about healthy eating, food waste and then we got to make our very own healthy sandwich! The children were encouraged to try new fruits and vegetables. But before we could do that we had to make sure we had our lovely hairnets on, aprons on and hands washed. Please take a look at our pictures from the day and we hope you enjoy your free loaf of bread.smiley

Reception's Got Talent

Every year we have our annual Padihams Got Talent. Representing Reception were Harry and his crew. They stole the show with their dancing of Cha Cha Slide! The children did amazing and were very very brave. Their hard work and dancing paid off as they were awarded with 2nd place, wow! Well done Reception. Take a look at the fabulous members of Harry and his crewsmiley

Lunch fit for a queen

With the Royal Wedding fast approaching, today we had our very own royal lunch! Not only did the children have a yummy lunch but they also got a crown. To carry on the celebration in class we have been decorating wedding dresses, making wedding invitations, writing wedding cards and decorating crowns. We even dressed up and held our very own class wedding (don't worry it was only pretend). Please take a look at our very own kings and queenssmiley

Meet our new friends!

In reception we have been very lucky. We have had the responsibility of looking after butterflies and helping them turn from an egg, to a caterpillar into a butterfly. This was a perfect opportunity to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly. The children were very gentle with the butterflies and made sure to care for them. The children now know that first their is an egg and then a caterpillar pops out. The caterpillar makes a cocoon and stays inside for 2 weeks. Then a beautiful butterfly pops out. Look at all of the smiley faces on our pictures below!smiley

Our adventure to the farm

Today was our school trip to the Wild Boar Park. The children were fantastic from start to finish. We fed the lambs, held the baby chicks and then went on a walk to spot some boars! After some lunch, we had a tractor ride and played on the park. Luckily...it didn't rain once...yipee! Please take a look at all of the pictures from our adventure!smiley

A Royal Baby

Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge! The children have really enjoyed talking about the Royal family and the birth of their new baby. The children thought it would be a fabulous idea to make a card for the new prince! Following the children's interest in the royal family, we have decided to make the royal wedding a topic. The children are very excited to make crowns, dress up and learn all about different traditions. If you have anything you would like to share about weddings, please feel free to bring it in. Make sure to keep checking our page for all of the latest fun with have been up tosmiley

With Easter just around the corner, we held our annual design an egg competition. The children worked so hard and came up with some amazing creations! Please see the pictures below and well done to all of the winners! smiley

Stop look and don't forget to listen

To fit in with our topic of road safety, we took the children on an adventure to the pelican crossing. We talked about the 3 important steps; stop, look and listen. We then crossed the road with the help of the green man. The children did really well and all crossed the road safely. We have even learnt a song about crossing the road, don't forget to ask your child to sing it to you.

Next we will be making our very own stop signs. Look out for the future lollipop men and women of Padiham!

A visit from Eddie the lollipop man

In Reception we have be learning about road safety. We were very lucky this week as Eddie the lollipop man came to visit us. He told us all about his important job, what he wears and how he keeps us safe. He even let us try on his uniform! Take a look at the newest lollipop men and women of Padiham Primary Schoolsmiley

Story Time with Mr Dunderdale and Mr Leyland

We were very excited to welcome Mr Dunderdale and Mr Leyland into reception this week. The children really enjoyed hearing male role models read in class. If you would like to come in and read to a small group of children we would love to have you in class. We love visitors!

Who will help me eat the bread?

Following on with our little red hen theme we made bread in golden time and all had a taste. It was wonderful to hear the children's description of the tastes. I thought it was scrumptious!

The power of reading!!!!

The more that you read the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go. With World Book Day approaching we have dived into our reading. We have been teaching the children about the importance of reading and how fun reading can be. We even had a visitor from Lancashire library service who came to read us a story! Please take a look at some of the pictures of the children who have 'got caught reading'.smiley

Do you want to build a snowman?

Please keep snowing!!! What better way to spend the day then outside in the snow. We have learnt about different seasons, changes in weather and properties of snow. The children even began to make a class snowman, I wonder what we should call him? Please take a look at all of the fun we have had smiley

Stars in the making!

During our topic of superheroes we read the story Superworm. As a class we worked tremendously hard to act out the story. The children then put their acting skills to the test and performed the story to the rest of the children at Padiham Primary School and to the children at Whitegate Nursery. They were fabulous! So after lots of practice and many takes later, we managed to get a wonderful video of the children performing. Please enjoysmiley

Let's go on an adventure...

We all wrapped up warm and headed out into Padiham yesterday to visit Whitegate Nursery. For half the class it was a chance to see friends and teachers at whitegate. It was also super walking through our community and talking about road safety. The children performed our version of 'Superworm'. Which you will see online tomorrow. We chatted shared a drink of milk and pottered back to school. Here are our photographs.

What lies ahead for Summer 2...

Reception has talent!

On Friday 26th May school hosted Padiham's Got Talent. As a class we chose Xenan Robinson and 'The Twinkles' (our singing group) to perform. The children were superb and both acts sang without any backing music! Xenan sang 'You are my sunshine' while The Twinkles sang 'If you are happy and you know it'. We were very proud of our performers and we weren't at all surprised that Xenan came 3rd in the competition. Well done Reception!

Come on in and have a cuppa...

Reception were proud to welcome parents into school on Friday 26th May to celebrate their learning and host a coffee morning. They used their knowledge of money learnt that very week! Children bought and sold homemade biscuits, cakes and worry dolls. Our worry dolls were a key theme to Emotional Health and Well-being week and reflected how important it is to share emotions. As a class we decided to donate our proceeds to 'Millie's Trust' and we have now paid for one parent to be trained in first aid. Thank you to all who supported us, it was wonderful as always to see you in school.

In a moment...

In reception we love to capture those precious moments and here is one of them! We have loved being out in the wonderful weather. Following on from our discussions about looking after each other the children have been looking after our things too! Here they are cleaning our muddy kitchen onsies! Please can you make sure all children have a water bottle, hat and sunscreen applied.

Thank you,

The Reception Team.

We have watched our seeds grow and dreamed about what we would see at the top of Jasper's Beanstalk. We can now name parts of a plant and talk about what a plant needs to grow. Well done Reception!

Fun in the sun!

In Reception we love being outside and this is where most of our learning happens! We have had a great week, here are a few pictures of what we have been up to! Our water wall has taught us how to problem solve, whether different materials float or sink and how buckets can contain different capacities! We have also had a great time making potions in our mid kitchen and imagining a variety of ingredients. Me and the team would like to apologize for the few changes of socks this week, sometimes our toes can get a little soggy!

Our Little Tiny  Wiggly visitors

You may of heard that we have got some tiny visitors in class! They are small, hungry and looking for food...they are caterpillars! We have been very excited and we have loved watching them grow. As you can see they are getting very fat! We are waiting for them to make a cocoon and emerge as beautiful butterflies. We we show you some pictures when this occurs!

Let's do some planting!

Mrs Howell has been showing the children how to plant vegetables this week. We have all had a turn at planting whilst chatting about what a plant or vegetable needs to grow. Now we just need to tend to our plants and watch  them grow. We will keep you updated!

Crime Scene Investigation

I am sure you have heard that our chair went missing on Monday. The children have made posters to find our missing chair and have been looking for evidence in the crime scene. Following lots of investigation we discovered it was Mr Monk. Our local PCSO's paid us a visit to class and had a little word with Mr Monk. Mr Monk was very apologetic and has shared how it is important not to steal items which aren't ours and how to ask if you are wanting to borrow something. Thank you to the local Police department and Mr Monk for a wonderful imaginative week in reception.

We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead and we are currently enjoying our ECO week in school. Please can you ensure your child has a full PE kit in school and isn't wearing earrings on their PE days. Miss Tann's class do PE on a Tuesday and Miss Wilson's on a Wednesday. This term we will be changing reading books more frequently so please encourage your child to read every night.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Wilson, Miss Tann and all the Reception Team.

Thank you to all the parents who visited us during our stay and play session. It is lovely for you to see your children learning and see what they enjoy doing at school. Here are a few photos of the day.

Stay and Play

We are looking forward to seeing you all on Friday 2nd December at 9:30am for our stay and play session. The session will last for half an hour and allow you the opportunity to chat to our team, see your child's learning journey and most importantly see your child enjoying learning. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Miss Wilson, Miss Tann and the Reception Team.

Thank you to all parents and guardians who supported our Children in Need day. We had a great day learning about the charity, tasting cakes we had baked and raising money as a whole school. The children once again looked fantastic in their PJ's!

We had a fabulous time celebrating book week. Our theme was magic, mystery and monsters! The children dressed up in some splendid outfits. Congratulations to our winners! Here are the photographs of our class dancing to thriller!

Reading Books

Thank you to the parents and guardians who are reading regularly with their child. We will be changing reading books at least twice a week on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please sign your child's reading books so we are aware the book has been read. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask,

Kind regards

Miss Wilson, Miss Tann and the Reception team.

What we are learning about in Autumn...

Our Adventures and Topics

The children have had a fabulous Autumn term so far! We have enjoyed going on adventures around school searching for dinosaur eggs and last week we followed a pirate treasure map! Here are a few photos for you to see what we have been up to! Here is also what we will be learning about for the rest of the term (our medium term plan). The topics are child led and are influenced by your children's learning and interests. This will also enable your child to bring in any topic related items to show to the class.

Have you seen our treasure?

Welcome back to our page,

We have been having a fabulous time in reception celebrating Roald Dahl Day and learning about dinosaurs. We are also looking forward to seeing you at the reading meeting tomorrow  (Wednesday 21st September). If you cannot attend we will send home copies of any useful information. Please be aware your children's reading books will be changed at least twice a week so please do make a note in their record books if they have read at home. Miss Wilson's class will be doing PE on a Thursday and Miss Tann's on a Tuesday so please ensure your child has a PE kit in school and isn't wearing earrings that day. Homework will be sent home on a Friday to be returned on a Monday unless specified. Please do come and chat to us if you have any questions,

Roald Dahl Day

Our first week in school

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to our Reception page! We are looking forward to a fabulous year ahead and hope you will visit our page to keep up to date with what's going on in class. Your teachers in Reception are Miss Wilson, Miss Tann, Miss Cryer, Mrs Howell, Mrs Harvey, Mrs Wade and Miss Hudson. We are always available and on hand too if you require any information or help with your child's needs and progress. We ask that you ensure your child has a labelled water bottle and PE kit within school and that all other items of clothing are clearly labelled. We will be celebrating Roald Dahl Day on Tuesday so your child will have the option of attending school in yellow clothing or non-uniform. We hope you will also be able to attend our reading meeting on Wednesday 21st September.

Kind regards,

Miss Wilson, Miss Tann and all the Reception Team.

Our Framework

Please click to view a copy of our framework Development Matters in Foundation Stage. The 'What to expect, when?' document is a lovely version of our framework which allows you to see what your child can be achieving at age related expectations.

Please have a read and if you have any questions please feel free to chat to us.
