PE
At Padiham Primary School we recognise the value of PE and it is an integral part of our curriculum. We follow the Lancashire curriculum using the PE Passport app to build a two year cycle. Within our PE lessons children develop the knowledge, skills and competence to excel in a broad range of sports and physical activities.
Take a look at our two year cycle curriculum map below:
P.E is taught as an area of learning in its own right, as well as being integrated where possible with other curriculum areas. It is taught at a minimum of one PE session a week. The key knowledge and skills are built upon throughout each year group and are developed systematically, with the programme of study for each year group building on previous learning. Knowledge and skills are informed and linked to enable achievement of key stage end points, as informed by the 2014 National Curriculum.
We celebrate many sports at Padiham Primary School and we want to provide as many memorable opportunities as possible. We invite professional coaches into lessons from out of school throughout the year including gymnastic, rugby, cricket and dance coaches as well the team from Pennine Active to teach children from Reception to Year 6 the skills to ride a bike and keep themselves safe on the roads.
We are very lucky at Padiham Primary School that all of our children have the opportunity to swim every year. From Reception to Year 6 the children have swimming lessons or water confidence sessions in our pop-up pool. Trained swimming instructors teach our children to swim with the aim of our children being able to confidently swim 25 meters by the end of Year 6. Here are some pictures of our children during our 2024 swimming lessons.
The Reception children had lots of fun practicing their climbing skills on the climbing frame.
Our youngest children have settled into school so well. They have begun their PE lessons with a focus on developing their 5 fundamental movement skills.
Introducing our Sports Crew for 2024-2025. Sports Crew children deliver focused sports tasks to our youngest children during lunch play time. The tasks are to promote the development of the fundamental movement skills that are the building blocks for enabling children to learn more advanced movement skills.
We attend many interschool competitions. Here are some pictures of events we have attended so far this year.
Keeping healthy is very important and as your teachers we want to inspire you to be active. There are many simple, fun and free ways that you can keep active and here are some of the ways PPS staff stay active and healthy. What could you do this week?
