Your children are just beginning their most exciting learning journey and what an adventure it will be. We are very lucky to have a wonderful team in Reception that work hard to develop a love for learning in all of our children and help children unlock their potential. In Reception we love to share learning and our learning successes. Here you will find regular updates about children’s learning, achievements and celebrations, as well as information regarding upcoming news and events.

Remember our door is always open so please do not hesitate to speak with us if you have any queries, concerns or questions.

Let the learning adventure begin…

We have learnt lots about the season of spring. The children have explored our school grounds to find signs of spring, painted daffodils, and planted sunflower seeds and beans. We can't wait to see our plants grow!

🥞Pancake Day🥞

The children read Mr Wolf's Pancakes and helped him by writing instructions on how to make pancakes. Then they got to taste test some of their own, they tried sugar, syrup and chocolate spread - as you can see they enjoyed them!

🍜Chinese New Year🍜

We learnt all about Chinese New Year! How people celebrate, lion and dragon dances, the food they eat and some of the traditions. The children made a dragon head together and had a mini feast of noodles and prawn crackers.

The children have loved learning about dinosaurs. They have created dinosaurs with paint, oil pastels, and even made gingerbread biscuits with dinosaur footprints! They have become palaeontologists, excavating fossils from sand and making notes in our role play area!

🐻‍❄️The Arctic🐻‍❄️

The children have been exploring Arctic animals and their habitat. We had a lot of fun trying to melt the arctic ice to free the animals that had become trapped. We used the heat from our hands, a hairdryer, salt and pipettes of warm water to melt the ice cubes.

❄️Snow Angels❄️

We made the most of the snow - the children were able to pop on our water suits and make snow angels.

We had a very busy Christmas time as you can see!

Police Visit

The Community Support Officers came in to school to tell us all about their jobs, how to stay safe and show the children their uniform - as you can tell, the children loved it!

People Who Help Us

The children are learning about all the people who help us. They have enjoyed the vets small world, the police station (especially putting people in jail!) and the fire station. They have also been building lots of vehicles.

The children were amazing in the pool! They loved splashing about with the beach balls and pool noodles.

The children have been dressing up as Princesses, Princes and Knights so they can enjoy our Castles topic. They have built castles in our creative area with our junk modelling station as well as using Lego in the construction area. Not to mention our mini castle and knight puppets!

The children have been decorating spooky biscuits, making potions and dressing up in our scary outfits!

Autumn Walk

The children enjoyed exploring our outdoor areas to find signs of autumn. They collected seeds, leaves and pine cones.

Ahoy matey! For the next 2 weeks our topic is pirates. The children will be hunting for treasure sounds, creating treasure maps, creating pirates, painting pirate ships as well as testing materials that would make a good pirate ship - will they float or will they sink?

Take a look at some of our learning so far.

The children enjoyed our monster topic. They are all super builders and have created some amazing structures!

Settling in

The children have been settling in really well - exploring the areas in our classroom.
