Welcome to our Reception class page!
Your children are just beginning their most exciting learning journey and what an adventure it will be. We are very lucky to have a wonderful team in Reception that work hard to develop a love for learning in all of our children and help children unlock their potential. In Reception we love to share learning and our learning successes. Here you will find regular updates about children’s learning, achievements and celebrations, as well as information regarding upcoming news and events.
Remember our door is always open so please do not hesitate to speak with us if you have any queries, concerns or questions.

Celebrating like it's 1980...Red Nose Day
Today we celebrated 80 years of Comic Relief. The theme this year was 80's style and wow the children did not disappoint with their outfits. We had a fashion show in the morning to show off our outfits and a disco at night. Thank you again for all of your donations.















Things that grow
This week we have been exploring the concept of growing. We have discussed all the things that can grow, including us, animals and plants. We decided to have a grow at growing our own plant. The children researched how to look after a plant and we created instructions to plant a seed. The children then planted their own seed and have had the responsibility of looking after their own plant.
















World Book Day 2025
In Reception we joined in and celebrated World Book Day. We celebrating our love of reading by dressing up and going on a book hunt. Well done to all of our Reception children for making such a fabulous effort, you all looked amazing!
Yum yum in my tum!
This week we have been celebrating pancake week. With the help of Mr Wolf, we have learnt how to write a shopping list and how to write instructions. The children then made their own pancakes and choose what topping they would like. Across the week, we have also explored weight, looking at how heavy and light things are. After lots of pancakes, we thought it was only right to teach the children about healthy eating and what being healthy means.
















Roaaaaar it's a dinosaur!
For the past couple of week we have been learning all about dinosaurs. The children have been exploring different features of dinosaurs and there names. In literacy, the children became authors. They designed their own dinosaur and then created a story, labelling all of the features such as wings, sharp teeth, horns and long neck. The children have learnt about extinction and what happened to the dinosaurs. Then then became dino hunters looking for fossils. Did you know we even found dinosaurs in school!

Chinese New Year
Happy New Year!
This week we have been learning all about Chinese New Year. The children have been busy preparing for our Chinese New Year Party. We have made musical instruments, cleaned the classroom, made decorations, practised using chop sticks, made dragon puppets, made cards and had a feast.
What a new year to remember!
Yogi Bears
This week the children all became Yogi Bears in their first yoga class. Our first session was all about the Yogi Bear 'happiness'. We learnt about different ways to move our bodies to help make us happy. The children loved trying out the different poses, they especially loved the mountain pose.
I wonder what Yogi Bear we will be learning about next week....









It's winter time!
As we are in a new season, we decided to explore winter. We've learnt what the weather is like, what things we might see in winter and what clothes we might wear. We've even had a look at winter animals. We decided to take the children on a winter walk. We saw snow, tree's with no leaves, ice on the ground and the children said how cold it was....they said 'Jack Frost has been playing outside'. We decided to collect twigs to make a winter tree. Take a look at some of our creations.












Christmas Party Day
WE LIKE TO PARTY!
What a fabulous day we have had. We played games, ate party food, met Santa himself....so much excitement.
If only everyday could be party day.
Our trip to the post box
The children have been very busy preparing their Christmas lists for Santa. Once we were all done, it was only right that we took the children to the local post box so they could post their letter. We had some very excited children!

The Christmas countdown is on
This week we have been busy getting ready for Christmas. We've decorated our classroom, we've began writing our Christmas lists and made our Christmas cards. We've even had a visit from a cheeky elf. We cannot wait for Christmas!












Padiham's newest police recruits...
People who help us
This week we have been learning about different heroes, not all heroes wear capes. There are lots of people that help us in different ways. The children have been eager to learn about the police, firefighters, doctors, nurses, teachers, dentists, postal workers and many more. As a class we have explored each job and how they help us. The children were thrilled to try on different costumes and pretend to be one of these heroes!

Castles
For the past couple of weeks we have been learning all about castles. The children have been exploring who might live in a castle, what it was like to live in a castle and different parts of a castle. The children have loved dressing up as queens, princesses and knights! We even had a go at making our own crowns....let us introduce the kings and queens of Padiham Primary School!
Happy Halloween
What a fabulous day we have had. The children all looked amazing in their costumes.
We have spent the day casting spells, making potions, creating spooky ghosts, painting fireworks and dancing at the disco!
Diwali
This week we have been learning all about the celebration, Diwali - the festival of lights. We have learnt what happens during the celebration. Did you know, they clean their house and decorate it, they draw rangoli patterns on the floor, they light candles, they give money and have a party.
We even had a look at some of the food eaten during Diwali. We tried naan breads, samosas, and Bhajis. Yum Yum!
We aren't scared of heights!
This week in PE we have put all our skills to the test and explored the climbing frame. The children were extremely brave. They carefully and safely climbed up, down and around the climbing frame. They were so proud of themselves!

Black History Month
To celebrate Black History Month we had a special visitor to teach us all about African drumming.
We learnt the history of drumming, where the drums came from, how to play them and how villages used them to communicate. The children loved making different sounds and creating a piece of music.
Autumn
To kickstart our new topic, we took the children on an Autumn walk. The children enjoyed exploring our local surroundings and looking for signs of autumn. The children were fascinated with the different coloured leaves.
This week we will be learning all about autumn, hibernation, numbers 1 2 3 and the sounds g/o...what a busy week!
Well hasn't the weather taken a turn....we are well and truly into the season of Autumn.
After a busy afternoon of exploring outside, we asked the children what could we do to warm up.
HOT CHOCOLATE!
The children were thrilled to get cosy with their friends, have hot chocolate and listen to a story.








This week we have continued our topic of monsters!
We have explored the sounds (s,a,t,i), practised copying and continuing patterns and learnt all about special people in our lives. To finish off a spectacular week we spent the afternoon on our school trim trail.

What a fun week we have had full of lots of learning!!
The children had their first PE lesson, dressed up, and did lots of learning about our topic, ‘Monsters’.
This afternoon we have had our very first Shooting Star assembly. We have all had a fantastic week so it made it very tricky to choose our Shooting Stars.
Well done to Harriet and Joey who are our first winners.

Today the children have stayed for the full day, which meant they got to have dinner here. They were all very excited for this.
