Below are some of the activities enjoyed in 1/2B last year.

Our Teddy Bear's Picnic....

We had 30 new visitors in our classroom today as we all brought our teddies to school to enjoy our annual Teddy Bear's picnic.

Remembering World War 1...

As always we loved dressing up for our WW1 day at school. Our outfits were fantastic.

Visiting Tesco's....

We enjoyed an interesting visit to Tesco's in Padiham. The staff told us all about where some of the food comes from. We investigated labels to find the origin of fruit and vegetables. Everybody decorated a biscuit and sugared a doughnut..... delicious!

Snails are not as slow as you think!

During our habitat and minibeast topic we observed some garden snails. They are really interesting little creatures, who we thought were really cheeky! We tried to have a snail race but the snails were more interested in exploring in the opposite direction.

Sporty fun...

We showed out competative spirit during our annual sports day. Look at our photos to see how great we are at jumping and sprinting in Year 1 and 2.

Imagining World War 1

We enjoyed a really interesting session with 'Tommy', who told us lots of really interesting facts about what life was like for the soldiers in World War 1. He taught us how to march, hold a rifle, and we sang a marching song. He explained what the soldiers wore, and how this was useful to them.

Healthy week...

During Healthy Week we have learnt a lot about the human body. Ask us what facts we know. We also made some healthy snacks.....yum!

Forces...

We enjoyed a super trip to the park to explore all about forces.

Our pitch is ready!

We had a fun afternoon at the grand opening of our all weather pitch. We enjoyed watching the staff team play football and netball against the children's team. We did lots of cheering and even the weather was sunny! Using the pitch is great at playtime and during P.E.

Learning about Lowry....

Ask us about L.S.Lowry. We have been looking at his work and working in his style.

Changing materials...

We had fun in Science finding out all about how materials change. We experimented with chocolate, clay, ice, paper and other materials and found out lots of interesting facts.

We all wore our sporty clothes and had fun doing sporty activities to raise money for Sports Relief. We like to be fit and healthy.

Investigating colour....

We have been investigating how to make lighter and darker shades, and how to use the primary colours- Red , Blue and Yellow, to make new colours. Super work everyone!

Book Day fun....

We loved spending the day dressed in silly outfits to celebrate World Book Day 2014. We spent the week reading, writing and enjoying poetry and rhymes. Well done to Jake and Olivia who won the prizes for the best outfits in our class.

In DT and Science we enjoyed investigating fruit, tasting it and choosing what we would like to go in our own fruit salad. We then practised cutting it and mixing it together. Delicious!

A healthy new year...

In Science this term we are learning how to keep our bodies healthy. We have learnt we need to eat well, exercise, gets lots of sleep and keep ourselves clean.  We did circuit training and thought about the effect exercise had on our bodies.

Look at our amazing model castles. If you look carefully you will see battlements, arrow slits and even a moving drawbridge. We used recycled cereal boxes to make our models. We are very proud of our work!

Having fun and making new friends...

We have enjoyed playing with old friends, and meeting new children in our class.

What are we aiming for this half term?

Our Writing Target:

To include a capital letter and full stop in our sentences.

To add connectives to our sentences to make them more interesting.

Our Reading Target:

To use our phonics to read new words.

To answer simple questions about what we have read.

Our Numeracy Target:

To understand Tens and Units and use our skills to add and subtract.

To know our 2, 5 and 10X tables.

A quick request...

Could parents please check that their childs name is written on every item of clothing. Jumpers, cardigans and coats in particular can be put on and taken off several times each day. Children can get very upset if they cannot identify their own clothing. Thank you for your help.

Quick reminders-

HOMEWORK-

Reading books are sent home each day for children to share with their family. When you have looked at the book with your child, feel free to note down a comment for the teacher to read, or if you prefer simply sign the reading record so we know the book is ready for changing. Many children will need to keep a book for several days before they can read it with some confidence. The book should be brought into school each day please, even if your child hasn't read it yet. Homework in 1/2B also includes weekly spellings to learn.

 P.E LESSONS-

P.E lessons are usually on Mondays. Please ensure your child has their kit in school, and that ear-rings can be removed easily so your child does not miss out on these lessons.
