  • Winner of National Whole-School Reading Culture Award,2015

    Fri 26 Jun 2015

We are delighted to say that Padiham Primary School has won the Read for My School National Reading Culture Award, 2015. Our school’s application really impressed the national judges by demonstrating a true commitment to a whole-school reading culture through really creative initiatives and investment for the future.

Reading for pleasure is at the heart of our initiatives, which aim to generate excitement about books and cultivate long-lasting positive attitudes towards reading.

The awards ceremony took place at a special event at the Lyric Theatre, London, on Thursday, 26th June. The celebrations featured an exclusive performance from Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain 3 and a storytelling, song-singing performance from Steampunk Pirate author Gareth Jones

Mr Dunderdale, Mrs Longbottom and six children from Years 5 and 6, travelled to London to receive the award from Book Trust Chief Executive, Diana Gerald.

The prize is a second £1,000 voucher to spend on Pearson Education products, a visit from an artist from The Beano to create an illustration of the winning class and a selection of books for our school library.

Deputy Head Chris Dunderdale said: 'Reading is the key to everything and to have national success in the Read for My School competition is phenomenal.'

Read for My School is the free national reading competition for children aged 7 - 13, delivered through schools in England since 2013 by Pearson and Book Trust, with support from the Department for Education.

  • Millie's Trust First Aid Training with Year 6

    Thu 25 Jun 2015

Well done to all our Year 6 pupils who had an amazing day being trained in First Aid by Millie's Trust owner Mrs Joanne Thompson. Pupils thouroughly enjoyed the training and were taught essential life saving skills and are now equipped to help in an emergency situation. We had a Non Uniform day and also sold cakes to raise money for Millie's Trust and we raised £372 which will now be used for training more people. A big well done to pupils and thankyou to parents for once again supporting us as you always do. Thankyou to Joanne, Millie's mummy for taking the time to come in and train us.

    Thu 25 Jun 2015

We have just taken delivery of a superb collection of brand new books to restock our library. This is part of our school's commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.

Some of the books were donated by Pearson, as part of our National Reading Culture Award, and some were provided by Scholastic, as commission for running a book fair earlier this year.

  • Bikeability Training Year 5

    Thu 25 Jun 2015
Well done to the 27 Year 5 pupils who took part in Bikeability Training. Pennine Active came into school to train pupils. The training was free under a Government scheme. Part one took place on the school yard and if pupils passed this they then took part in part two where they went out on local roads for their test. The children really enjoyed the training and now all feel a lot more confident in road safety on their cycles. Thank you to Pennine Active for training us.
